A passion for craftsmanship is the driving force behind Byron & Gómez
We are a partnership of designer makers dedicated to creating beautiful handcrafted furniture from our workshop in Somerset. We have a love of contemporary design and a passion for traditional craft. Our training as cabinet makers instilled in us a meticulous attention to detail which is evident in both the design and execution of our work. Through the use of high quality materials and our commitment to a simple harmony of form and function we create furniture that is bold yet understated.
Since beginning our partnership in 2015 we have been exploring and developing a range of made-to-order furniture as well as working on a string of private commissions. We are excited to announce several new pieces including collaborations with Benchmark and Kate Collin Design.
I grew up in the New Forest, England, and have always loved making things out of wood. My childhood home was full of antiques - some of which are thought to have belonged to my ancestor the poet Lord Byron - and from an early age I was fascinated by the different styles and materials used. After taking a science degree, I studied traditional cabinet making at Williams and Cleal furniture school whereI learned the skills I needed to transform an idea into an exquisite finished piece you can see and touch.
María del Mar Gómez
I grew in Puerto Rico and was passionate about making and designing from a young age. An innate desire to understand how the objects that surround us are made led me to study architecture and woodworking to pursue my life long dream of becoming a furniture designer maker. Drawing inspiration from my homeland's architecture, materials and forms I strive to create work that hold a beautiful balance between form, function and execution.
